Elderberry, particularly Sambucus nigra, is one of the best herbs for supporting immunity. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, it boosts immune health without overstimulating immune cells. This gentle but powerful effect makes elderberry an excellent choice for maintaining balance in the body’s defence system.

For centuries, elderberry has been used in traditional medicine around the world. It is packed with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C, making it a popular remedy for colds, flu, and general immune support. Its pleasant taste is another reason why elderberry products are often preferred by parents for their children.

Thanks to its exceptional nutritional profile, elderberry promotes overall well-being. Its high vitamin C content supports blood vessel health, reduces oxidative stress, and helps protect heart health by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. The antioxidant properties also benefit the skin, promoting a more youthful appearance.

As an immune booster, elderberry helps shorten the duration of colds and flu, reinforcing the immune system's ability to recover quickly. Catching a cold occasionally is natural, but a fast recovery indicates a strong immune response—and elderberry can help facilitate this process.

However, like many herbs, elderberry comes with safety warnings. Do not consume raw elderberries, as they contain cyanide that can cause poisoning. Always ensure elderberries are properly prepared, such as by decocting them for at least 30 minutes.

Lastly, before starting elderberry supplements or using it in herbal form, consult your healthcare provider to ensure it is safe for you.

Here I have good winter syrup recipe as remedy for you and your family.  This is a tonic syrup you can take it every day, 1tps.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup elderberries

  • A handful of crushed rosehips

  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 3 cups water

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.

  2. Reduce the heat and simmer until the liquid is reduced by half. (Remove lid)

  3. Let it cool slightly, but keep it warm enough to dissolve the honey.

  4. Stir in 1 cup of honey and mix well.

  5. Store in an airtight jar in the fridge for 4-6 months.

Have a healthy day.
